So you’ve downloaded a ton of stuff to watch, but you don’t fancy sitting in front of the computer to view it all. However if you want to lie back on the sofa and watch it on TV you’d have to convert them all to another file format and burn them to a DVD, right?

Nope. There are two ways to avoid this. One way is to just transfer them to a portable drive called a media player and then plug it into the TV the same way you would a DVD player or games console. The drive converts all the popular video file formats into a TV signal.

Now something like this used to cost nearly £1k, but of course everything gets cheaper and smaller eventually so now you can pick up a media player for less than the price of a high-spec DVD recorder. Or if you’re feeling extra techie and you have a spare hard drive you can simply buy the enclosure (like buying an mp3 player with hardly any disk space, then adding your own).

A cheaper alternative is to buy a Divx DVD player. You can then just burn the files to a DVD and then play them on the Divx player. These are often less than £40! Search for Divx player or MPEG player here for the best deals.
